In kindreds throughout the world , small groups unite periodically to practice a rapidly growing religion that was practiced on a large scale in Europe before the coming of Christianity. Asatru is thousands of years old. It's beginnings are lost in prehistory, but as an organized system, it is older by far than Christianity. Strictly speaking, since Asatru is the religion which springs from the specific spiritual beliefs of the Northern Europeans, it is as old as this branch of the human race, which came into being 40,000 years ago. It's Asatru, which means " belief in the gods " in Old Norse, the language of ancient Scandanavia. |
The Nine Noble Virtues of Asatru:The Nine Worlds of Yggdrasil (The World Tree): Boldness- Courage, Bravery, Standing up for what you believe in. Truth- Honesty in all things both to yourself & to others. Honor- To do as you say and to act upon your convictions. Troth- Loyalty to the self, family, friends, & the Gods & Goddesses. Self-Rule- Judgement & Self Control to govern yourself by your convictions. Hospitality- To freely share your gifts with others. Industriousness- To work wholeheartedly both hard & intelligently. To keep thinking & growing as a person. Free-Standing- Self-Reliance. Rely on others as infrequently as you possibly can. Perseverance- Don't give up at what you do until you feel it is completed & done well. |
